The Campaign Palladium was a short-lived political newspaper published in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana, by Isaac Stevens Jr. in 1848. Issued only during the six-month national campaign season of that year, the paper carried the subtitle, “The diffusion of information and arraignment of all abuses at the bar of public reason,” consistent with its role as a partisan voice in the heated political climate leading up to the 1848 presidential election between Martin Van Buren, Lewis Cass, and Zachary Taylor. Its first issue appeared on May 20, 1848, and publication ceased on 4 November of the same year to be replaced by its predecessor, The Indiana Palladium.
Zachary Taylor, a hero of the Mexican-American War, won the election, becoming the 12th President of the United States. He defeated Lewis Cass, the Democratic nominee. Former President Martin Van Buren ran as a third-party candidate for the anti-slavery Free Soil Party, winning about 10% of the popular vote but no electoral votes.
