The Vevay Reveille, and Switzerland County News (1862-1863)

The Vevay Reveille, and Switzerland County News was a weekly newspaper published in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana, from 1862 to early 1863 by F. J. Waldo & Co. It succeeded The Reveille and News and continued the long-running Reveille lineage of local journalism that had developed in Vevay since the 1840s. The first issue appeared on January 9, 1862, marking the beginning of the paper’s tenth volume under the same proprietors, and the last issue was published on February 19, 1863.

The paper’s numbering system reflected its continuity with earlier Reveille titles, maintaining volume progression despite title changes. Throughout its brief run, The Vevay Reveille, and Switzerland County News covered local affairs, war developments, and regional politics during the Civil War’s early years.

In February 1863, it was succeeded by The Indiana Reveille, which carried the paper’s editorial mission and title forward, continuing the Reveille series that would remain a fixture of Switzerland County journalism into the twentieth century.
