Old St Peters Cemetery, Taylor Township

This survey documents Old St. Peter’s Cemetery, located in southern Harrison County, Indiana. The cemetery lies on a dirt road off Lambs Ridge Road. Around 1964, the site was destroyed when it was bulldozed, and the gravestones were pushed over an embankment and buried, with most of them broken.

In the summer of 2000, a group not affiliated with the Catholic Church cleared brush from the cemetery and erected a new marker. They also recovered fragments from about a dozen gravestones. The readable inscriptions are listed below. Additional stones may still be buried under the soil pushed down the hill. The access road can be traveled with a standard passenger vehicle, though caution is recommended in wet or icy conditions.

This initial survey was conducted in 2000 by Michael Fromholt and Charlene Woodard. Additional details and known graves have been added in the table below.
