Vital Records Index to the The Vevay Reveille (1864-1901)

The Vevay Reveille was a long-running weekly newspaper published in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana, from 1863 to 1922. Its complex lineage traces back through several related titles that had served the local community since the early 1840s, including The Indiana Palladium, The Ohio Valley Gazette, The Weekly Reveille, and The Indiana Reveille. The Reveille title itself spanned multiple incarnations: the first Vevay Reveille appeared in February 1863 and lasted until December of that year; it was succeeded by The Indiana Reveille (January–December 1864); and finally, a second Vevay Reveille began publication in January 1865, continuing uninterrupted until March 1922.

Initially edited and published by Frederick J. Waldo, the paper later came under the direction of Helen and Merrian Protsman, who oversaw its later decades. The early Vevay Reveille maintained a general political character, while its later versions identified as Independent and eventually Republican, reflecting evolving political currents in post–Civil War Indiana.

Across its nearly sixty-year run, The Vevay Reveille served as the principal voice of Switzerland County, chronicling local news, politics, and social life along the Ohio River valley. It was succeeded in 1922 by The Vevay Enterprise and subsequently by The Vevay Reveille-Enterprise, continuing the long tradition of community journalism established in Vevay nearly eighty years earlier.

Due to the amount of names and life events recorded from this newspaper I have split the one large table into smaller ones based on the first letter of the surname.
