Vital Records Index to the Ohio Valley Gazette (1851-1853)

The Ohio Valley Gazette was a Democratic weekly newspaper published in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana, from 1851 to 1853. It succeeded The Indiana Palladium and continued under the same political alignment and local focus. The paper began publication on June 19, 1851, with Caleb S. Horton as editor and publisher through April 1853, after which O. S. and Frederick J. Waldo assumed control until its final issue on June 9, 1853.

Issued under the simple title Gazette in some references, the paper provided political commentary, local news, and regional notices relevant to life along the Ohio River valley. Though short-lived, The Ohio Valley Gazette marked a successive link in a series of mid-nineteenth-century Vevay newspapers that included The Indiana Palladium and The Campaign Palladium, preceding The Weekly Reveille, which began publication later in 1853.
